Construction Standards
With regard to aluminium thermal insulation systems, certain construction rules should be followed. Construction and fabrication cannot be a haphazard job, since aluminium window frames are a long-term investment for the customer, not something that is bought every day.
At Ultra Aluminium Systems, we make sure to follow all the procedures provided for, to ensure that the aluminium systems we supply our customer with are both subject to the applicable provisions and meet expectations.
At Ultra Aluminium Systems we meticulously ensure the following:
- The casing sheet and moulding are fitted with water drainage holes.
- In hinged frames, holes should be opened on the top vertical profile to ensure the circulation of air that will lead water to the gutters.
- In sliding thermal insulating frames, these can have a smaller (but elliptical) cross section. But there are more of them.
- During assembly, joints in aluminium systems should be sealed with joint adhesive. For this task, the surface should be carefully sanded with sandpaper to avoid damage to the coating and to ensure a cleaner sealing surface.
- Installation of an EPDM gasket to seal the gap between the pane and the central rabbet.
- Seal between the cap and the pane/central rabbet, achieved by application of the cap on the rabbet and by fixing using joint adhesive or silicon.
- The necessary provisions of centre gasket to ensure the entire length of the frame is sealed. After the gasket is in place, it will be carefully bonded at the joints using special glue, where a special EPDM corner piece can be optionally used.
- Placing of glazing on blocks on the workbench before the frame is installed in the building. Placing on blocks requires four plastic blocks, placed on the two diagonal corners of the casing (on the vertical and the horizontal profile of each corner). The specific procedure is very important for the proper operation of windows, as the weight of the glass may cause the casing to deform and the hinges and lock mechanisms to malfunction.
- Two gaskets are necessary to seal between the glass and the profile:
- The exterior part must be EPDM and mounted in the first phase, before the blocks.
- The interior part, installed at the end.
- Sealing of all joints using suitable materials.
the fitting of three mounting points with three hinges, or rear locking on hinged balcony doors. - Separation of iron and aluminium.
- With respect to assembly benches:
- The surface of benches where aluminium systems are worked, should be lined with special material (e.g. rubber), to avoid nicks and scratches.
- Each installer is required to keep a log of checks and tests on parts provided by their supplier. Gathering of these results will be easier and more expedient if each supplier is ISO 9001 certified. At Ultra Aluminium Systems, we make sure that all our suppliers are certified.
- The corner joints should be made from aluminium or other corrosion resistant metal to withstand oxidation.
- Rubber seals – especially those exposed to weather effects – should be made from EPDM.
- All the screws used, in all phases of the work, should be inox or, alternatively, galvanised.
- When a sub-frame is required, this should be of galvanised steel.
- It is necessary to apply twin sided adhesive tape to enhance the thermal blocking properties of the glass.
- Uniformity of the paint finish between profiles, panels, rollers etc.
Maintaining a fine balance in construction, Ultra Aluminium Systems, with respect to aluminium energy efficient systems, has all the traits of a reputable, approved manufacturer of aluminium thermal insulating window frames.
